Tattoo Aftercare-
Bandage stage:
- Leave bandage on for three hours. Some pooling and absorbtion of body fluids is expected in the papertowel catch.
- Wash that tattoo thoroughly using a dye free/scent free soap, I recommend Dial, Dove, or Ivory. Pat dry with a clean paper towel, and allow to air dry for approximately 30 minutes. Pat dry any areas that seep during this time.
- Wash tattoo again, pat dry and allow to air dry for a few moments.
- Re-wrap tattoo by applying a paper towel catch and cover the tattoo completely with Plastic Wrap, taping the entire edge completely to prevent air from getting to the tattoo.
- Repeat this process every three to four hours for two to three days, or until seepage has stopped. There is no need to remove bandage during sleep, as your metabolism slows during this time.
- IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO REMOVE THE BANDAGE EVERY THREE TO FOUR HOURS AND REPLACE IT AFTER ABOUT 30 MINUTES. DO NOT APPLY ANY CREAMS DURING THIS WRAPPING AND CLEANING STAGE
After the bandage stage:
- As the tattoo heals, the skin will begin to knit together and feel tight. It may itch as well. Do NOT scratch or pick at the tattoo. To relive the pulling and itching, massage in a dye-free/scent-free hand lotion for approximately one minute. Take a clean paper towel and pat dry the tattoo. Because of the massaging, the tattoo will be moisturized, there is no need for the surface to be wet or tacky, you will only attract dirt, dust, and bacteria.
- Repeat this process as needed, making sure your hands are clean each time, and you pat the tattoo dry after massagin in the lotion.
- Your new tattoo will begin to peel like a sunburn after 3-5 days, and will peel for about a week. It is important that you do not pull off the flakes, as this may result in holes in the color.
- DURING THE HEALING PROCESS, REFRAIN FROM EXCESS ACTIVITY WHICH WILL HAVE YOU COMING INTO CONTACT WITH OTHER BODIES OR BODILY FLUIDS. THESE ACTIVITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO GOING TO THE GYM, PLAYING SPORTS, EXCESSIVE YARD WORK. EXERCISE INCREASES YOUR HEARTRATE, THINNING YOUR BLOOD AND RESULTS IN EXCESS SEEPAGE FROM THE TATTOO. REFRAIN IF POSSIBLE. DO NOT SUBMERSE THE TATTOO IN ANY WATER DURING THE HEALING PROCESS, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO BATHS, POOLS, SPAS, HOT TUBS, SAUNAS, OR THE BEACH. KEEP YOUR NEW TATTOO COVERED WITH CLOTHING AND OUT OF DIRECT SUNLIGHT DURING THE HEALING PROCESS.
- I hate caps lock as much as anybody, but the above information is very important to ensure the best possible heal. Any touchups required as a result of neglegence during the healing process will incure a charge to repair. Otherwise, I will cover the cost of all other touchups.
